Bodies of 3 missing Ideal College students recovered

Strong current of Dhaleshwari River washed them away from the spot they drowned

The bodies of three Ideal College students, who went missing in the Dhaleshwari river, have been recovered in Savar. 

Fire Service and Civil Defence members recovered the bodies of Rajon, Mehedi and Akash Hossain on Sunday, a day after they went missing in the river.

Rajon and Mehedi were the residents of Dhaka while Akash lived in Banktown area of Savar. 

The three classmates went missing while taking bath in the river on July 27. All of them were first-year students of Ideal College at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.

Senior officer of Savar Fire Service Station Liton Ahmed said they recovered Rajon’s body from beneath the Boliarpur bridge around 3:15pm.

Earlier, Mehedi's body was recovered from beneath Kunda Bridge in Boliarpur area around 12:45pm while Akash's body was recovered from Namagenda area around 10:45am.

Strong river current washed them away from the spot they drowned.

Locals spotted Rajon's body seven kilometres away, Mehedi's body more than six kilometres away while the body of Akash was found two kilometres far from the spot, Liton Ahmed said.

Fire service personnel resumed their operation on Sunday morning, in search for the trio. 

Classmates of the three and local fire service sources said 12 first-year students of the college came for a visit in Banktown area and went swimming in the Dhaleshwari river.

Four of them swam to the middle of the river. Although one student managed to make it back to the river bank while the trio went missing.
