Some workers are struggling to manage three meals a day
Solar Ceramics Limited workers in the Sreepur municipality of Gazipur are protesting by work abstention and stand-still demonstrations as their wages are due for two months.
The workers halted their production and peacefully demonstrated inside their factory on Monday morning. Members of the Gazipur Industrial Police were present to prevent any untoward situation, said Gazipur Industrial Police Inspector Chandan Kumar Chakrabarti.
Workers said authorities of the factory haven't paid salaries on time for two years. The workers had to protest often to draw superiors attention.
Due to financial crisis workers failed to pay monthly rent to their homeowners and grocery shops are refusing to provide them basic supplies in advance as their debts to the shop are already high.
Suraiya, a worker, said workers are living in inhumane conditions and some are struggling to manage three meals a day.
Inspector Chandan said: "We are discussing the matter with the authority, date of the due salary disbursement will be announced soon."
Administrative Manager Alamgir Kabir of Solar Ceramics Lt said: "We are facing some difficulties such as not getting the raw materials on time, and couldn't start production on time, that is why sometimes we fail to pay the wages timely."
