A second grader was killed as a school wall collapsed on her while she was standing beside it in Panchagarh.
The deceased, Neela Akter, 8, was daughter of Anowar Hossain Liton and resident of Islampur area in the Sadar upazila, of the district.
Sources said, Neela was standing beside the wall with few of her friends in the school premises. As the wall collapsed she got injured while her friends were successful in saving themselves. Hearing her screams, nearby guardians rushed to the injured Neela and took her to the Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital, where the duty doctors declared her dead.
Students along with guardians held a demonstration and besieged the school in protest against the teachers’ demeanure in this regard.
Some students and guardians alleged, the teachers were chatting in class time and due to their ignorance students went out that led to the accident.
Panchagarh police station, Superintendent Yusuf Ali confirmed the incident.
Panchagarh District Commissioner, Sabina Yasmin said: “We made a three member probe committee to investigate the incident. We will take prompt action if the report directs to any irregularities from the school authority.
The school headmaster Monir Hossain couldn’t be reached for a comments despite several attempts.
