Shop owner arrested for torturing schoolgirls in Feni

One of the girl’s guardians filed a case with the police station

Police arrested a grocery shop owner for physically torturing two schoolgirls in Sonagazi upazila of Feni on Wednesday.

The arrested was identified as Jamal Uddin Montu, 28, owner of Bhai Bhai store near Kuthir Haat bridge in Char Majlishpur union of the upazila.

According to police, locals, and the victims’ families, on Wednesday morning the first-grade and second-grade schoolgirls on their way to Kuthir Haat Government Primary School, were beaten by shop owner Jamal, who said the girls stole juice from his shop. 

At one stage he kept them under lock and key and they could not attend their ongoing second term examinations.

Informed, police broke the lock and rescued the girls, arresting Jamal Uddin Montu from his house.

Jamal told police that the two students were kept under lock and key as he suspected their involvement in stealing juice from his shop while they were returning home after classes on Tuesday.

Headmaster of Kuthir Haat Government Primary School, M Abu Tayeb, confirmed the incident to Dhaka Tribune.

Sonagazi model police station OC Moin Uddin Ahmad said: “On information, and with the school headmaster with us, we rescued the girls and arrested Jamal from his house.” 

One of the girl’s guardians filed a case with the police station, he added.
