Holidaymakers, travelling to the north and northwest of Bangladesh ahead of Eid, have blocked roads and burned tyres at several places on Dhaka-Tangail highway, protesting long tailbacks.
Thousands of passengers have been suffering immensely due to chronic traffic congestion, especially on Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Manikganj highways, since the Eid journey began on August 9.
As of Sunday morning, a 50km long tailback has been persisting on the Dhaka-Tangail highway leading upto Bangabandhu Bridge.

After being stuck on the road for hours, irritated passengers of buses and other vehicles took to the streets and burned tyres protesting the traffic jam in several places of Tangail, including Tanjila, Pongli and Rabna bypass areas, on Sunday morning.
However, no vandalizing incidents have been reported.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Tangail Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ahaduzzaman Mia said: "We are closely observing the situation and additional police personnel have been deployed on highways to avert any untoward situation"
