Thousands of holidaymakers were stuck on the highway due to tailbacks extending over the Bangabandhu Bridge since Friday
After three days of severe traffic congestion, vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Tangail highway regained momentum around 3:30pm on Sunday.
Bangabandhu Bridge East police station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Masud Raihan said: “Traffic movement became normal in the afternoon and the police are working to control congestion at all times.
“A number of vehicles broke down in Sirajganj early on Sunday. It took some time for us to remove them, which hampered toll collection, creating long tailbacks on the highway,” he added.
Thousands of holidaymakers were stuck on the highway due to tailbacks extending over the Bangabandhu Bridge since Friday.
On Sunday morning, they had blocked roads and burned tyres at several places, protesting the long tailbacks.
