A housewife has been allegedly killed by her husband for dowry at Sultanpur Palpara in Satkhira district.
The incident happened early on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Dipika Hazra, wife of Animesh Pal from the same area.
Kalpona Hazra, the mother of the deceased, said her son-in-law called them around 3am and told them thatDipika had taken her own life.
“We rushed there and found my daughter hanging from the ceiling. She had several wounds on her body,” she added.
Kalpona alleged that her son-in-law has been asking for dowry since they got married last year.
“We have given him money on various occasions,” she added.
Animesh could not be reached for comments.
Mostafizur Rahman officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar police station said: "We have recovered the body and sent it to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for autopsy."
