Student killed for protesting harassment in Brahmanbaria

RAB 14 held a press conference in this regard on Wednesday

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has held two suspects in connection with the murder of Ikram Hossain, a college student who was killed for protesting harassment of his niece.

The arrestees have been identified as Md Shimul and Shohag Mia.

RAB arrested them from Brahmanbaria's Bijoynagar upazila.

RAB 14 held a press conference in this regard on Wednesday.

RAB 14 Company Commander Rafiuddin Md Jobayer Ikram said: "A student of Sarail Degree College in Brahmanbaria, had protested when his niece, Shimu, was being regularly harassed on her way to school by Md Shimul. 

"Following a complaint, a mobile court had sent Shimul to jail for eight months. After he was released from jail, Shimul planned an attack on Ikram, and hacked him to death in his house on Sunday."

The victim’s father, Shahidul Islam, filed a case following the incident and later police arrested three suspects for their involvement and during interrogation they revealed the names of the prime suspects.

"The duo has confessed to their involvement in the murder during primary interrogation and will be transferred to Sarail police station," added the RAB official.
