10 injured in IU BCL factional clash

The feuding groups also fired gunshots, and blasted cocktails that left ten people injured

At least 10 people were injured in a factional clash between two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Islamic University in Kushtia early on Monday.

The feuding groups also fired gunshots, and blasted cocktails that left ten people injured.

Campus sources said, BCL general secretary Rakibul Islam and his followers beat up Neel, an activist of Alamgir Hossain Alo's group, around 1 am.

After that, a group of BCL took position in front of Bangabandhu Hall, while the supporters of Rakibul took position at Zia intersection.

Both the groups brought out protest procession with iron rods, machetes, and sticks in the campus around 1:30am.

At one stage, chase and counter chase took place between the two groups. They also fired gunshots.

Rakibul Islam alleged that the incident was totally unexpected. Some outsiders took the chance, and created the unstable  situation on the campus.

Around 3 am, the situation became normal with the help of university proctorial body, and student advisor.
