Three more die from dengue across country

Unofficial death toll stands at 130

Three more people have died from dengue across the country, in Khulna, Chittagong and Dhaka.

A woman has died of dengue at a private hospital in Khulna.

The deceased Rahima Begum, 60, was from Sonabaria village in Kolaroya upazila of Satkhira district.

Gazi Medical College Hospital Director Ananda Mohan Saha said: "Rahima died in the hospital around 6:30 pm yesterday, after being admitted with dengue around 3:30 pm.

Her husband has also been diagnosed with dengue, and has been transferred to Dhaka, he added.

Meanwhile, a youth also died of dengue in Chittagong yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Biplob Das, 25, son of Santosh Das of Chandanaish upazila in Chittagong.

The youth was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Monday evening. However, he was shifted to a private hospital as there was no vacancy at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of CMCH. He was brought back to CMCH hours after he was taken to a private hospital.

ASI Alauddin Talukdar of CMCH police outpost told Dhaka Tribune the dengue patient was admitted to the hospital at 8:30 pm on Monday.

“Later, the patient’s family shifted him to a private hospital at 5am yesterday. However, he was brought back to the CMCH at 12:30pm. The on-duty doctor at the emergency room pronounced him dead upon arrival,” said the ASI.

Furthermore, 55-year-old Josna Khatun, from Chhatarpara village in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia, died from dengue at a private hospital in Dhaka.

She was admitted to a local hospital in Kushtia on Friday, August 30. Later, she was transferred to Dhaka on Sunday after her condition deteriorated, said Josna’s son Selim.

A total 42 people in Chhatarpara village have been infected with dengue, while 60 people have been infected with the mosquito-borne disease in Daulatpur upazila.

From January 1 to September 3, 72,745 people were hospitalized with dengue across the country. Currently, 3,746  are admitted to different hospitals. A total 57 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till September 3, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 130 so far.
