Woman dies of dengue in Barisal

A woman has died of dengue at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Barisal. 

The deceased Sadhana Rani Haldar, 44, of Barguna district, died while undergoing treatment around 6:30am on Sunday, Dr Bakir Hossain, director at SBMCH, told Dhaka Tribune.

He said: "Sadhana, in critical condition, was admitted to the hospital’s dengue ward on Saturday (September 28) afternoon."

The death toll of dengue patients at SBMCH, including Rani, increased to 11 since July 16, 2019, the hospital director added.

Dengue situation in Bangladesh

A total of 360 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours.

Till 8am on Saturday, 102 new patients were admitted in Dhaka and 258 in districts outside Dhaka.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Saturday, said the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 1,709.

A total of 81 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till September 29, according to their own collected data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 168, so far.

As many as 583 patients were currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 994 people were undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.

Since January 1 till September 29, as many as 87,605 people have been affected by dengue.

Among those admitted, a total of 85,797 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
