Two more dengue patients — both women — have died in Dinajpur and Jessore.

Both deaths were reported from the districts yesterday.

In Dinajpur, Shilpi Begum, 32, of Thakurgaon, died in the early hours of yesterday while undergoing treatment at M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.

The hospital’s Director Dr Abu Muhammad Khairul Kabir said Shilpi was admitted there on Saturday.

In Jessore, Sima Khatun, 35, died while she was being taken home at Chougachha upazila yesterday afternoon.

She was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex a week ago, said her father-in-law Mofizur Rahman. After undergoing treatment there for two days, she was shifted to Ibn Sina Hospital for better treatment.

Mofizur said Sima was kept at that hospital’s Intensive Care Unit for the past five days. As her condition did not improve, her family decided to have her released and take her home. But she died on the way.

DGHS, in a press release, said at least 1,481 dengue patients were currently admitted to different government and private hospitals across the country as of yesterday.

A total of 81 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh between January 1 and September 30, according to DGHS. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be around 170.

Since January 1, as many as 87,953 people have been infected by dengue. Of them, 86,281 were released from hospitals after treatment.
