The boat was carrying 25 passengers on board
Five people, consisting of women and children, have gone missing after a boat capsized in Teesta river in Kurigram.
The incident took place near the Buri bazaar area under Gharialdanga union of Rajarhat upazila around 12pm on Sunday.
Police were able to identify two of the missing passengers- an 11-year-old girl named Jannatul Akhi, and a woman named Kobiron, 70, Rajarhat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC Investigation) Nazrul Islam told Dhaka Tribune.
He said the boat was carrying 25 passengers on board. Among them, 20 passengers were rescued alive as some of them were able to swim ashore.
The OC further said: "We will continue the rescue operation until all the missing passengers are found."
