A Myanmar national, Abul Hossain, 32, from the Lama upazila was been detained in Bandarban by members of the army on Monday with a firearm and a knife.
Police sources said, Abul was detained from his Bangla Bazar residence in Lama. He is the son of Abdul Hamid.
According to locals, Abul came to Bangladesh and first settled down in Ukhiya’s Kutupalong Rohingya camp and then stared living in the Lu Lying area at Bangla Bazar.
Locals said, an influential group has given some Myanmar nationals shelter in the region and have been using them as tools to grab the land of the people of the Murong community.
After primary investigation, the army handed Abul over to the police.
Lama police station Officer-In-Charge (OC) Md Aminul Islam confirmed Abul’s detention saying that legal action will be taken against him.
