The court placed them on a 2-day remand and handed them over to police
A 13-year-old girl has been gangraped after she was abducted and kept in confinement for nine days in Madhabdi upazila of Narsingdi district.
Police have arrested five individuals, including the prime suspect, in connection to the gangrape on Sunday afternoon.
The five suspects were produced before a court on Sunday night with a request for remand. The court placed them on a 2-day remand and handed them over to police for questioning, Madhabdi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Taher Dewan told Dhaka Tribune on Monday.
The arrestees are- Sujon, 27, Rubel, 26, Md Faysal Miah, 20, Asadul Islam, and Shakil Mollah.
Quoting family members, OC Dewan said the victim was abducted from the upazila's Dargah Bari area by some miscreants in a microbus around 10:30am on October 5.
Four days later, the abductors called her father demanding a ransom of Tk2 lakh, and threatened to kill his daughter if he fails to provide the money.
The victim's father filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000 (Nari o Shishu Nirjaton Daman Ain) over the incident on October 12, the OC said.
Police then started tracking the number that the abductors used to call the father and arrested one of the accused -- Rubel -- when he came to take the ransom.
Later, based on information provided by Rubel, police arrested the remaining of the accused.
The police official said: "We have rescued the victim and sent her Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for medical examination."
The arrestees have confessed to their crime during the preliminary interrogation. They will be produced before court again later in the day.
