Students ceased their protest after they sat with the VC at 11pm

Female students attached to Deshratno Sheikh Hasina Hall in the Islamic University (IU) of Kushtia staged a sit-in protest on Monday night demanding the removal of the hall provost over her misbehaviour.

The students who participated in the hour-long protest from 10pm, said the hall Provost Professor Dr Selina Nasrin has threatened to drive them away from the hall after they submitted a 18-point complaint to the Vice Chancellor on October 1.

The complaints include: misbehaving with the guardians of the students, and allotting hall seats to students attached to other halls.

The students also said the provost have been influencing their department teachers, who have been threatening them in an assortment of ways.

Students alleged “Does the hall belong to your father?” is one of the favorite lines of the provost when she expresses her disagreement with the students.

Students were holding placards at the protest, that said “Student harassment won’t be tolerated,” “We demand the resignation of the dictatorial provost,” “VC sir we want solution,” etc.

The students went back to their hall around 12:30am on Tuesday after Vice Chancellor (VC) Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, along with the university’s Treasurer, and Proctor rushed to the spot, and assured them of meeting their demands.

VC Harun said the authorities are looking into the matter.
