The minister said the real progress of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project is 84%

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the construction work of the 6.15-kilometre Padma Bridge will be completed by June 2021.

He came up with the deadline of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, while talking to journalists, at the Visitors' Centre of the bridge's Service Area 1 in Munshiganj on Thursday afternoon.

He said: "The Padma River is very unpredictable. It has a strong current, and carries a lot of silt which makes it difficult to place spans on piers. That is why, it is also tough to complete the construction work within the scheduled time."

The real progress of the Padma Bridge project is 84%, the minister said.

He said the overall progress of the bridge work is 74% while the financial progress is 75.84%.

Obaidul Quader said the pile driving works of the main bridge have been completed along with construction of 32 piers out of 42.

In the meantime, 31 spans out of 41 reached the Mawa site from China, while 14 of those were already installed, he continued.

The 15th span has been taken to the site between pier 23 and 24 for installation, he said.

The real progress of the river training work reached 63%, and its financial progress is 50.40%, the minister said.

Besides, construction work on the approaching roads has also been done, he said.

The minister also said a dairy farm of Bangladesh Army would be set up on a land which remained fallow since its acquisition.
