Third-grader raped, 5 arrested in Sherpur

An eight-year-old child was raped in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur on Friday night.

Police yesterday arrested five people including the prime accused. They are: Azizul Hoque, 19, his father Alam Miya, 40, mother Asma Begum, 30, and uncles Dulal Miya, 40, and Nurul Hoque, 40.  

The girl’s father filed a case with Nalitabari police station following the incident, accusing five people .

According to the case statement, the girl was returning home alone from her uncle’s house on Friday night when she was stopped by Azizul. He abducted her to an isolated place and raped her. When the girl came home injured, she revealed what had happened and was rushed to Sherpur Sadar Hospital. 

Nalitabari police station OC Basir Ahmed Badal said: “The prime accused Azizul was on the run since the incident. He was arrested in Gazipur’s Tongi and is being brought to our custody. The girl has undergone medical tests at Sherpur Sadar Hospital.”
