A cross section of students and teachers at Jahangirnagar University (JU) have continued their strike for a second day on campus demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam. Administrative and Academic activities have come to a standstill.

On the second day of the strike at 8am on Tuesday, the protesting students, under the banner  “Jahangirnagar Against Corruption”, gathered in front of the entrances of most of the administrative and academic building gates on campus. JU teachers expressing solidarity with the protesters also participated by gathering in front of the old administrative building.

For the third consecutive day, VC Prof Dr Farzana Islam was absent from her office. The administrative activities were also halted as employees could not enter their respective offices due to the strike.

Most of the students of the university boycotted their classes and examinations, expressing solidarity with the demand of the protesters.

However, regular academic activities continued as usual in some of the departments such as International Relations, Journalism and Media Studies, Archeology, Bangla, Government & Politics, and the History department of the university.

Some teachers from the Faculty of Biological Sciences and the Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences, their sympathies in support of the VC, also took regular classes and examinations.

Protesters continued their strike till 4pm.

Sayeed Ferdous, Professor at the Anthropology department, expressed his solidarity with the protesters and said: " The protest started to make an inquiry into specific corruption allegations. But we did not receive a proper response. We were forced to take these strict actions. Now the protest will continue until the demand is met."
