Narayanganj madrasa teacher held over sexually abusing minors

A case was filed against the accused by another teacher of the madrasah

Police have arrested a madrasa teacher on charges of sexually abusing two female third grade students in Narayanganj.

He was detained from Safinatul Ummah Mohila Madrasa at Hosaini Nagar area of Fatullah union on Sunday night.

The arrestee, Qari Shahidul Islam, 48, is a teacher of the same madrasa.

Mohtamim Mawlana Abdul Huq, another teacher of the madrasa, filed a case against the suspect under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act with Fatullah model police station on Monday afternoon, the police station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Aslam Hossain told Dhaka Tribune.

According to case details, Qari Shahidul allegedly abused the female students from different classes by touching them inappropriately.

When some of the students informed their guardians about the abuse, they took the matter to Union Parishad Chairman M Saifullah Badal.

Later, the UP chairman elaborated the matter to the police, who then called in witnesses, including the victims and their guardians, for their statements.

Police then arrested Shahidul based on their accusations, and a case was filed after the arrest.

Local sources said Qari Shahidul and Mohtamim Abdul Huq, along with others, established the madrasa in 2014. After the other partners left the madrasa for several reasons, the two kept the institution running.
