Rally held marking 3 years of Gobindaganj Santal killing

A rally was held at the Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha marking the three years of Santal assassination in the area on Wednesday, organized by the Sahebganj-Bagdafarm Bhumi Uddhar Sangram Committee,Jatiya Adivasi Parishad, Bangladesh Adivasi Union, Adivasi-Banglali Sanghati Parishad and Janauddog.

The three-year anniversary of the Santal Killing was observed by presenting a bouquet and lighting candles on the temporary Shahid Minar built in front of the Madarpur Church.

Sahebganj-Bagdafarm Bhumi Uddhar Sangram Committee President Philemon Basak presided over the program.

One minute silence was observed to pay homage to the three Santals who were killed on the  day.

More than a thousand Santals and Bengalis joined the activities with banners in their hands  demanding justice for the killings.

On 6 November 2016, the police and sugar mill employees clashed with the Santal people over the issue of cutting sugarcane on the Rangpur sugar mills land and ownership of some land. 

Three Santal men were killed during the clashes and 20 people, including the police, were injured in the incident.
