Update : 12 Nov 2019, 06:38 PM

The Forest Department has lifted the ban on the entry of tourists to the Sundarbans.

The decision was taken at a meeting between the Forest Department and Tour Operators’ Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) at Khulna Forest Conservation Office around 11 am, Forest Conservator of Khulna Zone Moinuddin Khan said on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The ban was imposed on Monday as the cyclonic storm “Bulbul” shattered many camps, wood pontoons, jetty and walkways of the world’s largest mangrove forest.

However, tourism activities in the Sundarbans will remain suspended from November 25 to November 27 to clean the forest, Moinuddin added.

A total of 63 camps of the Forest Department were working to assess the extent of damage caused by the cyclone, Moinuddin further said.

The cyclonic storm completed crossing the West Bengal-Khulna coast near the Sundarbans around 5am on Sunday.
