Students of Jahangirnagar University, who have been continuing their anti-vice chancellor (VC) demonstrations on campus, are going to bring out a procession on Thursday to press home their three point demand.
The protest group, 'Jahangirnagar against corruption," said in a press release that they would produce a ledger before the press on December 10, with corruption records of the Vice Chancellor (VC) Farzana Islam, which was earlier scheduled to be published on Tuesday.
The press release also made a three point demand, namely, a prompt resumption of academic activities at the university, ensuring the punitive punishment of Chhatra League members for attacking the protesting students, and the removal of the vice chancellor given the corruption allegations brought against her.
JU syndicate to hold meeting on Wednesday over reopening of JU
Jahangirnagar University (JU) Syndicate will hold an emergency meeting on campus on Wednesday to discuss resumption of academic activities at the university, said a press release.
On November 5, the authorities closed the university for an indefinite period and asked all students to vacate their respective dormitories.
'JU to re-open on December 8th'
Bangladesh Chhatra League JU unit President Jewel Rana said on Tuesday on a Facebook post that he got an affirmation from the VC that the university would reopen on December 8, and that students would be able to stay at university halls from December 6.
JU Chhatra League also submitted a three point demand. They are: resumption of all university activities, stopping protesters from engaging in unauthorized activities and ensuring punishment of Jamaat Shibir activists, who they believe are manipulating the protesters.
When asked about the Chhatra League President's statement, VC Farzana Islam said: "I will not make any formal declaration about the matter before the syndicate meeting takes place."
"But it's a free country and anyone can give an opinion of their own accord," she added.
Meanwhile, Jewel said: "Considering our demands, the VC assured us that the university would reopen soon. That's why I posted the statements with full respect for the upcoming syndicate meeting."
