A farmer was killed in an elephant attack in Boalkhali upazila of Chittagong on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rupon Das, 55, son of Jatindra Das of Joystyapura village in the upazila.
Inspector (Investigation) of Boalkhali police station Mohammad Helaluddin Faruki said a wild elephant attacked Rupon while working on his vegetable field around 6am, leaving him dead on the spot.

Abu Naser Md. Yasin Newaz, Divisional Forest Officer, Wildlife Management and Ndature Conservation Division, Chittagong told the Dhaka Tribune that the incidents of human-elephant attack rose alarmingly in Chittagong region.
“During the dry season, wild elephants come to the locality in search of food and water. The incidents of wild elephant attack particularly rise during paddy harvesting season,” he said.
“People should not overreact towards them. Any sort of overreaction may result in human casualty. The elephants will move away after damaging some crops. We will give proper compensation to the affected people,” added the DFO.
