Paturia-Daulatdia ferry service on the Padma river has resumed after being suspended for nine hours due to dense fog.
The service recommenced around 8am on Friday after it had been halted around 10:30pm on Thursday.
Four ferries loaded with vehicles and passengers were stranded in the mid-river because of the suspension, said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Assistant Manager (business) Mohiuddin Russell.
He said: "From Thursday evening, thick fog slowed down the ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route. The fog intensified around 10pm, prompting the authorities to suspend the ferry services and plying of the water vessels in order to avert accidents."
More than 500 vehicles were waiting to cross the river since the suspension of ferry movement, he added.
