2 suspected drug peddlers killed in Dinajpur 'gunfight'

DB police recovers phensedyl bottles, a firearm, bullets and yaba pills from the spot

Two suspected drug peddlers were killed reportedly in a gunfight with the Detective Branch (DB) in sadar upazila of Dinajpur.

The incident occurred in Ramsagar Tajpur area in the early hours of on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Abul Kashem alias Kaisha, 30, and Rahmat Ali, 32.

Two police officials were also critically injured during the drive.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, ATM Golam Rasul, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dinajpur DB police, said that acting on a tip-off, one of the DB teams took position near a road in the area to intercept a gang of drug traders.

When the DB team stopped a gang passing through the area, it was fired upon, forcing the law enforcement team to fire back, triggering a gunfight, Rasul claimed.

Kashem and Rahmat were caught in the line of fire and killed while the other drug traders managed to escape during the encounter.

"Two of our men, Nahid Hasan, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), and Mahabub Alam, a constable, were seriously injured in the gunfight. They are currently undergoing treatment at the M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital, Dinajpur.

"The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the same hospital for autopsy. Kashem and Ali had multiple cases filed against them."

The DB police also recovered 150 phensedyl bottles, a firearm, two bullets and 50 yaba pills from the spot.
