Update : 14 Feb 2020, 11:18 PM

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) shot and injured a Bangladeshi cattle trader near Baghadanga border in Jhenaidah’s Moheshpur upazila early on Friday.

The injured was identified as Ripon Khalifa, 30.

Later, the BSF men took him to Ramnagar area under Hanskhali police station in India’s Nadia district.

BGB 58 Battalion Assistant Director Nazrul Islam Khan said Ripon, along with six others, illegally entered India by crossing the border to bring cattle from there at dawn on Friday. Noticing their presence, patrolling BSF members of the area shot at them.

BSF handed over Ripon to Indian police in an injured state while the others managed to flee the area, added Nazrul.

At a flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF on Friday afternoon, BGB demanded the return of the captured Bangladeshi citizen. However, BSF informed that he was handed over to Indian police and currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Krishnanagar.
