Awami League leader shot dead in Bandarban

A group of armed individuals opened fire on a local tea stall, killing Bachnu on the spot and injuring five others

Unidentified armed criminals shot dead a local Awami League leader and injured five others in Bandarban Sadar upazila.

The incident occurred in Jamchhari Mukh Para of Rajbila union around 7pm Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Bachnu Marma, 60, ward 7 president of Rajbila union.

The injured identified as Mongka Ching, 25, Ka Pru Mong, 40, Adase, 32, La Mong Sing, 35, and Uwe Cho Thoa, 65, are all local residents.

According to local and police sources, a group of armed individuals opened fire on a local tea stall, killing Bachnu on the spot and injuring five others.

Bandarban Sadar police station OC Shohidul Islam said: “The injured have been rescued to Bandarban Sadar Hospital and the body of Bachnu has been recovered as well.” 

Police and army personnel have been deployed in the area to avoid further untoward situation, he added.

Police did not manage to identify or detain anyone in this connection as of writing this report.
