Islamic funeral held for another sex worker in Daulatdia

Another sex worker in Daulatdia village of Goalanda upazila in Rajbari district has been given a proper Islamic funeral.

The Janaza [funeral rites] of 48-year-old Nilu Parvin, who died of natural causes, was held around 2pm on Saturday.

Nilu Parvin is the third sex worker from the brothel who received a proper Islamic funeral. 

Imam Md Abu Bakkar Siddiqi of Goalanda ghat mosque conducted the ceremony.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Sarif Uzzman and Goalanda Ghat police station Officer in Charge Ashikur Rahman were present at the ceremony.

OC Ashikur said: "Earlier, the body of sex workers would be dumped into river. However, on February 2, for the first time in Bangladesh, we arranged a funeral for sex worker Hamida Begum, and later on February 20, for Rina Begum. This culture will go on. 

Islamic funeral for a sex worker was a taboo in Muslim majority Bangladesh.
