Man killed in trawler accident: A worker was killed in a cement-laden trawler which capsized on Tuesday after being hit by a sand-laden vessel on the Shitalakhshya River. The deceased, Masud, 35, was trapped in the engine room of the trawler when it was hit by the vessel ‘MV Nana-Nati’ in Muktarpur, confirmed Inspector Newaz Uddin, in-charge of Muktarpur River police outpost.

Woman stabbed to death in Brahmanbaria: A woman was brutally stabbed to death in her father’s house on Monday, reportedly by a man who was harassing her for a long time in Nabinagar upazila, Brahmanbaria. The deceased, Aklima Akhter, 22, was the wife of Liton Miya and a mother of one. Ranajit Roy, acting officer-in-charge of Nabinagar police station, said police are conducting drives to apprehend the killer.

Drug trader held in Dinajpur: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a drug trader with over 3000 yaba tablets during a drive on Tuesday in the Hili border area. The arrested is Abdul Hakim, 58. Acting on a tipoff, BGB conducted a drive in the Raibhag area and detained Hakim while he was transporting the yaba pills on a bicycle, said Subedar Chan Miya, the Basudebbur Camp Commander of BGB in Hili.

40 injured in Brahmanbaria clash: At least 40 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers in Char Islampur market of Bijoynagar upazila, on Tuesday afternoon. The clash occurred when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Sharif Miya demanded additional fare from Nabi Miya. Nabi Miya carried two oil drums on the auto-rickshaw due to which Sharif couldn’t carry extra passengers, said locals. Bijoynagar police station OC Md Atikur Rahman said 30 of the injured received treatment from different hospitals and the situation is now under control.
Man arrested for instigating wife to commit suicide: Police arrested a Chhatra Daal man on Tuesday for instigating his wife to commit suicide in Shibaloy upazila in Manikganj. The deceased Nurunnahar Bannya, 27, committed suicide on Monday night as she reportedly couldn’t tolerate the physical and mental abuse of her husband Foysala Hossain, 32, and her in-laws. Shibaloy police station OC Md Mizanur Rahman said a case was filed in connection with the incident.

Three of a jewellery hijacking gang arrested: Police arrested three hijackers of a mugging gang who snatch gold jewellery from women in Jamalpur. The arrested, Habibur Rahman, Abdul Khalek, and Sujan Sheikh, were held from Balijuri market of the upazila early Monday. Police sources said the gang used to offer fake gold bars to village women in return for their jewellery. The culprits also used sedatives when their victims suspected that they were about to be deceived. Jamalpur Superintendent of Police, Md Delwar Hossain, said police are trying to arrest other members of the large hijacking gang.

Man kills wife in Panchagarh: Police arrested a man in a case filed for strangling his wife to death in Pradhanpara area of Panchagarh Sadar upazila. The accused Alamgir Hossain, 34, in a primary interrogation, confessed to strangling his wife Shefali Begum, 30, using a muffler, said Panchhagar Sadar police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Monjurul Islam. Alamgir murdered his wife as disputes often occurred between the couple over Alamgir’s extra-marital affair, added the SI.
