Policeman, suspected robber injured in Gazipur 'gunfight'

A policeman and a suspected robber have sustained gunshot wounds in a reported gunfight between police and a group of robbers in Gazipur's Rajendrapur area.

The incident took place on Sunday night.

The injured are Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahirul Islam of the Sadar police station and suspected robber, Sharif, reports UNB.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar police station Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan said a team of police, led by the SI, conducted a drive based on the tip-off that a gang of robbers gathered in front of the gate four of Bhawal National Park in Rajendrapur.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on them. Police fired back in self-defence, triggering a gunfight.

SI Jahirul and the robber were injured in the gunfight, said the OC, adding that both the injured were taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.
