A prisoner died in Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur on Tuesday night

Fire breaks out at a spinning mill in Gazipur: A fire broke out at the ZamZam Spinning Mill Ltd factory in Sreepur Upazila of Gazipur on Wednesday. Senior Station Officer Miah Raj of Mawna Fire Service and Civil Defence confirmed the matter. Rasel Sarkar, assistant manager of the factory's quality control and management, said they noticed smoke emitting from the cotton warehouse around 2:45 pm. “The fire soon went out of control. However, no one was injured in the fire,” he added.

Italy expatriate arrested under Digital Security Act: An Italy returnee in Kishoreganj district was arrested on Tuesday night under the Digital Security Act for violating home quarantine rule as a precautionary measure for coronavirus outbreak. Arrested Sheikh Hossain Md Iqbal returned from Italy on March 7.  He is a resident of Gahagra village in Mithamoin Upazila of the district. Iqbal was arrested from his house at night after Mithamoin police station SI Nazmul Islam filed a case against him under the Digital Security Act.

RpMP spraying antibiotics using water cannon: Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) on Wednesday began spraying of antibiotics using water cannon on the city streets with a view to preventing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the metropolis. For health and security of the people, the RpMP started spraying bleaching powder mixed with water and savlon as antibiotics using water cannon to disinfect the streets and public places of the city from coronavirus.

Corona prevention cell formed at IU: Islamic University (IU) authorities have formed a 10-member corona prevention cell on the campus in Kushtia to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The decision was made at an emergency syndicate meeting held in campus on March 21, IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said on Wednesday, reports UNB.  IU Vice-chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari formed the cell, led by university’s Proctor Prof Paresh Chandra Barman.

Nine houses gutted in Nilphamari: At least nine houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Koya Golaghat Jelepara in Sayedpur Upazila of Nilphamari on Wednesday. Police sources said the fire originated from a house owned by one Salam in the area. On information, a firefighter team from Syedpur station rushed to the spot and controlled the blaze after an hour's frantic effort. Properties worth Tk 3 lakh was damaged in the fire. Mahmud Hasan Khokon, in-charge of Syedpur Fire Station confirmed the incident.

Prisoner dies in Kashimpur jail: A prisoner died in Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Abdul Gafur, 75, son of Abdul Hakim of Birampur Upazila in Dinajpur district. Senior Superintendent of Kashimpur Central Jail-2, Subrata Kumar Bala, said a case was filed against Gafur in 1997 with the Tongi police station. He has been convicted for life-term in the case since 2000. He was suffering from asthma and cardiovascular disease. After the situation deteriorated at night, he was sent to Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where he died. 

RaihanulAkand, Gazipur

Two held with ampoules in Dinajpur: Police detained two persons along with 950 ampoules of injections in Hakimpur Upazila of Dinajpur district on Wednesday. Detainees are Rajiur Rahman Marshal, 35, a resident of Dakshin Basudebpur area in the Upazila, and Rahim Sarker Pappu, 26, of Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat district. Hakimpur police station OC Abdur Razzak Akanda confirmed the news.
