'The businesses that are defying government directive and keeping their shops open will face legal repercussions'

Police personnel were harassed and driven away by businessmen who were keeping their shops open disregarding government orders issued to stem the spread of novel coronavirus in Sylhet.

The incident took place in Chatul Bazar of Kanaighat upazila around 1pm on Thursday.

Kanaighat police station OC Md Shamsuddoha said all businesses remained open at Chatul Bazar on Thursday, despite government’s directive of closing all businesses except grocery stores, vegetable markets and pharmacies.

So, police along with the market association’s president, ordered all businesses—except grocery stores, vegetable markets and pharmacies—to shut down.

However, the business owners refused to follow orders and attempted to attack the police officials.

Failing to come to an understanding the police officials were forced to return to the station.

“The businesses that are defying government directive and keeping their shops open will face legal repercussions,” said OC Md Shamsuddoha.
