The fire destroyed around 10 tons of clothes and furniture worth Tk3 lakh
Police arrested a readymade garment worker for setting his workplace on fire in Shiddhirganj of Narayanganj.
The accused, Mahfuzur Rahman, 30, said he set the factory on fire ‘to have some fun’ as the owners didn’t allow him to take leave during the 10-day general holiday in effect to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
During primary interrogation, Mahfuzur confessed to setting the ninth floor of ‘Knit Concerns Group’ on fire on March 29 with help from four other accomplices, said Shiddhirganj police station OC Kamrul Faruk.
Ansar Ali, cutting manager of the garments factory filed a case against the accused at the police station yesterday.
The fire destroyed around 10 tons of clothes and furniture worth Tk3 lakh, according to the case details.
Mahfuzur was detected in CCTV footage of the factory after the incident took place.
