The prime suspect in the murder of an eight-year-old girl in Thakurgaon has been arrested by police.
Confirming the matter, Thakurgaon city police camp Inspector Ziarul Islam said the prime suspect, Zahidul Islam Zahid, 16, was arrested on Tuesday night.
He also said on March 19, the body of eight-year-old girl was found buried in a ditch inside a forest near the DC Park area of the district town.
After questioning several suspects, police focused on Zahid, who hails from Kaharpara area of Nargun Union, as he failed to appear at the police station for questioning despite several calls.
Later on Tuesday night, police nabbed Zahid and he confessed to killing child after a failed rape attempt.
Inspector Ziarul Islam said Zahid tried to rape the child when he saw her alone at the park area.
“At one point, the victim recognized Zahid and threatened to tell everyone of the incident. In fear, Zahid strangled the girl to death and buried her body in a nearby ditch,” he added.
Police also said a murder case has been filed against the suspect with Thakurgaon Sadar police station.
