Chandpur Civil Surgeon Shakhawat Ullah confirms the matter
A 32-year old man tested positive for coronavirus in Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur, making him the first confirmed case in the district.
Chandpur Civil Surgeon Shakhawat Ullah confirmed the matter on Thursday night.
"The man, hailing from Rangpur, works at a garment factory in Narayanganj. He came to visit his in-law's in the area on April 4," said Shakhawat Ullah.
Shakhawat added, when the worker came to the village, locals suspected him as coronavirus infected, prompting health authorities to collect a sample from him.
"We sent the sample to Dhaka for testing of coronavirus . On Thursday night, the IEDCR confirmed that the man had tested positive," he said.
"We will now bring the patient to the isolation unit of Matlab Uttar upazila Health Complex for treatment." said the Civil Surgeon.
On Thursday evening, the district administration put Chandpur under complete lockdown to limit the transmission of the novel coronavirus as the country has started to see a surge in Covid-19 cases.
Till Thursday, the novel coronavirus has so far infected 330 people and killed 21 in Bangladesh.
