Schoolboy murdered in Rangpur: A high school student was murdered after he was called out from his home in Badarganj municipality town of Rangpur. Shaymol Chandra Mahanta alias Nayan’s body was discovered at his school premises yesterday morning. Discovering the body, locals said Nayan was likely killed after a solid object was used to hit him on the back of his head. The victim’s family said one of their neighbour called him out of the house Thursday night and he was missing ever since. Badarganj police station OC Arif Ali said the incident is being investigated.

2 killed in lightning strikes: Two farmers were killed in lightning strikes in Sylhet and Habiganj on Friday. The deceased were Shahed Ali, 62, and Md Sirajuddin, 55. Shahed was killed when a lightning bolt suddenly struck him while he was grazing cattle in Radhanagar Borobondho village in Sylhet. Sirajuddin had to embrace the same fate while he was cutting grass during a thunderstorm in Uttarshurma village of Habiganj. Sylhet’s Gowainghat police station OC Md Abdul Ahad and Habiganj’s Madhabpur police station OC Md Ikbal confirmed the deaths.

Rickshaw-van driver arrested for raping minor in Pabna: Police on Friday arrested a rickshaw-van driver for allegedly raping a six-year-old child in Dharbila village of Pabna Sadar upazila. The accused Abdur Rahman, 40, was arrested after a case was filed against him on Thursday. Pabna Sadar police station Sub-Inspector Mohayminul Islam said the girl was playing outside her house on Thursday evening, when she was abducted to an isolated place and raped there.

One arrested for impersonating DB police: Police on Friday arrested a man for pretending to be a member of Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj. The arrested is Mahbub, 35. Chapanawabganj Sadar Model police station OC Ziaur Rahman said the man identified himself as a DB police personnel while interacting with people during relief rice distribution in Baroghoria union on Friday. Local administration provides relief to newspaper vendors: Manikganj district administration provided relief and financial support to newspaper hawkers to help them survive the countrywide shutdown triggered by a rapid spread of Covid-19. Manikganj Deputy Commissioner SM Ferdous distributed the commodities and money at the Manikganj Press Club premises on Friday. Hawkers halted distribution of national dailies as their sell fell drastically due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Local administration came to their aid hearing of the miseries.

Two killed in road accidents: Two people were killed in road accidents in Jhenaidah and Tangail on Friday. The deceased were Farhad Ali, 30, and Ohidul Islam Sumon, 28. Sumon’s motorbike collided with a tree and the injury from the incident killed him in Jhenaidah. Farhad was run over by a truck in Bikramhati area of Sadar upazila, Tangail, reports our correspondents.

Fire guts 22 shops in Comilla: At least 22 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at the fruits market near Chandina Bus Station of Comilla on Friday.
