The deceased was a friend of the attacker
A man was killed while another sustained injuries after shots were fired by a police officer assigned as the bodyguard to Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque.
The incident occurred around 9.45pm on Thursday.
The deceased Shahid, 30, and the injured Mahim Uddin, 32, were both friends of the attacker Kishore Kumar Sarker, 35, an assistant sub-inspector.
The primary investigation revealed that Kishore actually wanted to kill Mahim as he suspected him (Mahim) of having extramarital relation with his wife, according to Kaliakair police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain Majumder.
Kishore is from Kutubdia village in Kaliakair. Three of them met up when Kishore went there, the OC said.
Kishore’s wife returned to her father’s house in Mirzapur from their house in Dhaka as they were having altercations for some time. Kishore suspected that his wife’s extra-marital affair with his friend Mahim was the reason behind her insolence.
Kishore invited Mahim for smoking cannabis and chatting in a fallow land of the area, but his ulterior motive was to kill his friend.
Mahim, along with Shahid, was waiting there for Kishore.
Around 9.45pm, Kishore reached the place on a motorcycle and started firing indiscriminately, killing Shahid on the spot and injuring Mahim.
Kishore fled the scene when the locals came there hearing the shots.
“The case is being investigated. Shahid’s body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College for autopsy,” the OC said.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said it was a planned murder according to the information he had received.
“He has been dismissed from his job. He is a killer. He will not receive any special treatment,” the minister added.
