A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Panchagarh .
The incident took place along Ratanibari Prodhanpara bordering area in Sadar upazila around 4pm on Sunday.
The dead, Sumon Roy, 16, son of Paresh Chandra Roy of the village, appeared in the SSC examination this year.
Sumon along with some others were erecting fence in their jute field near the border on Sunday morning, Lieutenant Colonel Mamunul Haque, BGB-65 Battalion commanding officer, said.
At one stage, the members of the Indian border force from Khayerbari post went to the spot and asked them not to do so, he said, adding: “At one stage of altercation, a BSF man shot Sumon on his abdomen, leaving him critically injured.”
Later, he was taken to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital and then shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where the boy succumbed to his injuries , the BGB official added.
BSF officials have been asked for a flag meeting, the BGB officer said adding that the details would be revealed after the meeting.
