Suspected robber killed in mob beating

A suspected robber has been killed in a mob beating in Laskardi village of Araihazar upazila, Narayanganj.

The deceased, Jewel Miah, 38, --who was accused in two cases of rape and attempted murder-- was killed by hundreds of locals early morning Thursday when he and his gang went to rob a house in the area.

According to locals, a group of 12-13 robbers attacked a resident named Abdul Kadir’s house. When they screamed for help and the adjacent mosque declared about the robbing through miking, the residents of the village went furious and retaliated the robbers. While other robbers were successful to fled the spot, Jewel could not and was killed by the angry mob.

Araihazar Police OC Nazrul Islam said: “We recovered Jewel’s body around 5am Sunday from the spot. He was accused in two cases and other allegations against him are being investigated.”
