The duo critically injured a local businessman for extortion money
Police arrested two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders for critically injuring a local businessman in Rangpur.
A police squad arrested the two from the city’s Darshana area on Friday afternoon.
The arrested are Tushar, joint secretary of Rangpur BCL, and Didar, organizing secretary of Rangpur BCL.
Kotwali police station Sub Inspector (SI) Ershad Ali confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Earlier, Tushar, Didar, and a few others demanded Tk50,000 in extortion money from the local cable businessman, Nahid. But Nahid refused to give them any money.
On Wednesday, they attacked Nahid with sharp weapons and left him critically injured.
Later, locals and Nahid’s family members took him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Nahid’s wife Fency Begum filed a case in this connection with Kotwali police station against four people including Tushar and Didar.
Kotwali Police station SI Ershad Ali said: “We have managed to arrest Tushar and Didar after conducting several raids in the area. We will continue our efforts to arrest the others as well.”
