The Senior Judicial Magistrate court ordered Kumarkhali police station to investigate the matter and submit a report before the court before June 24, 2020
A Kushtia court has ordered Kumarkhali police to take legal action against ten people, including a mayor and seven councillors over relief misappropriation.
The Senior Judicial Magistrate Selina Khatun ordered Kumarkhali police station, on Tuesday to investigate the matter and submit a report to the court before June 24, 2020.
The accused are, Shamsuzzaman Arun, mayor of Kushtia's Kumarkhali municipality, seven councillors under his constituency, Shah Alamgir, UP chairman, Sharmin Sultana, UP member, both of them from Daulatpur upazila's Moricha union.
Acting on a published report on a local newspaper named Daily Ajker Alo, police launched a secret investigation and found that the allocated 1350 relief packages were distributed by falsified signatures of the locals. The office of Superintendent of Police said they have found evidence that the poor people of ward no- 1,2,4,6,7,8 did not get any reliefs and even did not signed on the papers the mayor has provided as proof, says the case statement.
Therefore, a Criminal Miscellaneous Petition- 03/2020 has been lodged by the court to enable police to take legal action against the responsible personnel.
While the Mayor Arun denied all allegations against him, Kumarkhali Police OC Majibur Rahman said upon receiving the formal court order, he will soon launch an investigation over the matter.
