Police found the bodies of the three along with 18 local weapons, 200 cartridges and 55,000 pieces of Yaba tablets after the gunfight
Three suspected robbers have been killed and five police personnel have been injured in a reported gunfight with police at the hilly area of Rangikhali in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.
The deceased were Nurul Alam, 40, and Syed Alam, 35, brothers and sons of late Abdul Momin, and Abdul Monaf, 20, son of Sabbir Ahmed, all residents of Rangikhali madrasah para in Teknaf.
Teknaf police sources said the robbers were members of a crime ring in the area and were preparing to commit a big robbery. On information, police went to Rangikhali hills at about 4:00am on early Wednesday to arrest them.
As police reached the location, sensing their presence, the suspected robbers opened fire forcing the police to retaliate with gunshots, said Pradeep Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station.
After the gunfight, three bodies along with 18 local weapons, 200 cartridges and 55,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, police say.
“A case will soon be filed against the robbers, and the bodies have been sent to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital for autopsy,” said the officer.
Pradeep added that five police personnel including a sub-inspector also sustained injuries during the gunfight.
