With this new laboratory, coronavirus infections can now be tested at three institutions in Chittagong
A coronavirus (Covid-19) testing laboratory has been launched at the Microbiology Department of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Prof Dr Mohammad Shameem Hasan, principal at the CMCH said they began testing samples for coronavirus using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machines on Saturday.
“We are capable of testing 90 samples per day. Although we received only six samples on the first day, the samples tested will increase in the days to come,” said Dr Shameem.
Earlier on May 5, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) handed over a PCR machine to the CMCH.
With this new laboratory, coronavirus infections can now be tested at three institutions in Chittagong, including the Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) and the CVASU.
As of Friday, 206 persons tested positive for the coronavirus in Chittagong. Of them, 15 people have died of the deadly viral disease while 49 patients have recovered and returned home.
