Hundreds of workers of three textile mills in Narayanganj's Fatullah upazila on Wednesday staged demonstrations in front of their factories demanding that their Eid bonuses and pending salaries before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Workers of Shah Fateh Ullah Textile Mills, Jalal Haji Spinning Mills and Paradise Cables Ltd gathered in front of their factories demanding payment of Eid bonus and salaries.

The workers became agitated and demonstrated in front of the main gate in two phases when the owners announced that they would pay 60% of their salaries and that there will be no bonuses.

Workers of Shah Fateh Ullah Textile Mills said an attack carried out by the owners' men left 10-12 of its workers injured.

Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, Fatullah Model police station OC Aslam Hossain said.

The workers subsequently withdrew from their protest as police assured them that their due payments would be cleared after speaking with the factory authorities.

Shah Fateh Ullah Textile Mill’s Assistant Manager Aslam Hossain said: “Workers became agitated after we announced that those who are currently working will get full salaries and the rest will be paid 60% of their salaries, according to the latest government directive.

“However, we did not attack any workers but merely tried to disperse the crowd. Later, police rushed in and took control of the situation.”
