Barguna journalist secures bail in DSA case

On May 6, Sumon Shikdar was arrested on charges of defamation through an online platform

Journalist Sumon Shikdar has secured bail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.

Barguna Virtual Court-1 (Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court) Judge Jahid Hasan granted the bail petition on Thursday.

“Six out of the seven accused in the case were arrested; among them only Sumon has managed to acquire bail,” said Sumon Shikdar’s lawyer Advocate Saimun Islam while talking to Dhaka Tribune.

On May 6, Sumon Shikdar along with two other local journalists were arrested by Barguna Sadar police, based on charges of defamation through an online platform. 

He was subsequently suspended from Bangla Tribune and Dhaka Tribune on allegations of personal misconduct.
