Update : 21 May 2020, 09:10 PM

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) have urged city residents not to crowd tourist spots in the city during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, said a CMP media release on Thursday.

Earlier on March 18, CMP had enforced a ban on public gathering at tourist spots in the city including Patenga Beach, Parky Beach and Foy’s Lake.

CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (PR) Abu Bakar Siddique said that the ban was enforced to contain the spread of coronavirus and the ban would remain in force until further notice.

Legal action will be taken against the violators of the ban, the official said.

As of Wednesday, Chittagong recorded a total of 1,218 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Of them, 45 patients have died of the deadly viral disease.

Chittagong recorded 256 new infections in a single day on Wednesday.
