A man has been killed and 10 others have been injured during a clash between two rival groups of villagers in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj.

The incident took place at Kanglakandi village on Sunday morning.

The deceased is Nazim Uddin, 60, a resident of the village.

Locals said two groups, led by Nazrul Master and Abdur Rouf, were at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the village.

Following the dispute, the rival groups engaged in a clash, leaving Nazim Uddin, a follower of Nazrul Master, injured critically.

The victim's grandson, Nasir Uddin, said his grandfather died on the way to Sirajganj General Hospital.

Shahjadpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman said they recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police also detained two people in connection with the clash, he added.

Dr Md Anwar Hossain, the upazila health and family planning officer, said five of the injured were admitted to Shahjadpur Upazila Health Complex.

Earlier on May 3, an elderly man was killed in a clash following a dispute over the lease of a government pond at Parkola village in Shahjadpur upazila.

The clash took place among the followers of Shahjadpur Municipality Councillor Belal Hossain and former councillor Mostafizur Rahman Pijush.

Later, a case was filed against more than 100 people including Pijush and his three siblings in connection with the clash.

Pijush is also one of the accused in another case filed over the killing of journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul, Shahjadpur correspondent of Daily Samakal.
