A five-day-old infant has tested positive for the new coronavirus (Covid-19) in Chittagong.
The sample of the newborn tested at the laboratory of Chittagong Medical College came back positive on Thursday.
The baby was one-day-old when the sample was taken from him for the Covid-19 test on May 25.
Previously on May 24, a 32-year old woman was admitted to Chittagong General Hospital where she gave birth to a baby boy by caesarean delivery (C-section).
At that time, the mother was undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. She was later shifted to Chittagong General Hospital after she was confirmed as a Covid-19 patient.
As the mother was a Covid-19 patient, so sample was collected from the newborn baby as well for a Covid-19 test.
Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that the mother and her baby are undergoing treatment at Chittagong General Hospital and their condition is stable.
