Headmaster assaulted for ‘exposing corrupt chairman’ in Pabna

Police say they will take necessary legal actions, once a formal complaint is filed

A primary school headmaster has been injured in an attack allegedly led by the Machpara union parishad chairman in Atghoria upazila of Pabna.

The victim KM Roich Uddin, headmaster of Sharabari Government Primary School and president of upazila primary teachers’ association, alleges that he was attacked for bringing up allegations of irregularities, corruption and embezzlement against UP Chairman Abdul Gafur Miya.

During the incident which took place in Rameshwarpur Purbapara on Tuesday, Jinnah Ali, acting general secretary of the Machpara Union unit Awami League, was also injured.

Headmasters KM Roich Uddin said: “We were attacked by thugs led by UP Chairman Abdul Gafur Miya for bringing up allegations of irregularities, corruption and embezzlement in various government relief projects.”

Contacted, Machpara UP Chairman Abdul Gafur said the allegations brought up against him were all completely false. “It is nothing but political revenge. I’m not worried about it.”

Atghoria police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Asif Mohammad Siddiqui confirmed the incident and said: “I have heard that the headmaster was beaten up. Once we receive a formal complaint, the accused will be brought under the law as soon as possible.”
